We at DJ Connection, in our strive for excellence, often look to the example of great men from history to emulate both for the business and for our personal lives. One man that we have found that is definitely worth emulation is one of the men that made this nation possible, Benjamin Franklin. Ben Franklin accomplished a great many things in his lifetime, was loved by most people that he met, and through his position as ambassador to the French actually saved the US during the Revolutionary War. Ben started his career as a printers assistant for his brother, but ended up running away because of his brothers abuse. He tried finding work in a few different cities but found his home in Philadelphia, where he again worked as a printers assistant. He spent a little time in England purchasing equipment for the Philadelphia government, but eventually returned to his old position and eventually started his own printing company. His business became very successful due to how diligently he worked, and he eventually one contracts for government jobs. From this start he opened a goods store with the help of his wife, and even bought a newspaper business and began printing and writing for the newspaper. Already a successful business man, Ben then started tinkering with creating new goods. Among his creations are a heat-efficient stove, swim fins, and bifocals; his greatest work in science, however, was his work in electricity. Ben also found time to help in his community, things that he has been credited for are helping to launch projects to clean and light the streets of Philadelphia, the nation’s first subscription library, the American Philosophical Society, the Pennsylvania hospital, the Philadelphia Fire Company, and insurance company for fire loss prevention. Ben was able to do an amazing amount of good for his community, but his contribution to the country was just beginning. Ben spent a lot of time in England, and actually really enjoyed the country. However, when he intercepted letters from the English appointed Governor of Massachusetts showing that he was working for the king, Ben revealed the letters to the American people, and soon left to return to America. While in America he was one of the men that signed the Declaration of Independence, and after the war started went to France to be an ambassador there. Because of Ben's charisma, wisdom, and personality, the French signed the Treaty of Alliance with America and helped us win the war against the British. What we DJs noticed most from Benjamin Franklin is that he succeeded in his business because he was a hard worker, and that he was successful in all other areas in his life because he was outgoing and had a hunger for knowledge. If we can develop these characteristics in our own lives, we can continue to provide a better service to the people we work with, and become overall better humans.
